PG&E to offer schools information on energy conservation
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--California schools,
like a lot of customers on fixed incomes, are trying to deal with
rising energy costs while keeping students warm and enlightened.
To help school officials better manage energy costs, Pacific Gas
and Electric Company and the Energy Star team of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency will sponsor a finance workshop next
Tuesday, February 20.
"California schools currently spend $450 million a year on
energy -- more than the cost of books and supplies combined, according
to the California Energy Commission," said Beverly Alexander, the
utility's vice president for energy management programs. "In the midst
of the current energy crisis, that number is likely to rise, and
that's why it is so important for our schools be as energy efficient
The workshop will focus on managing the rising costs of natural
gas and electricity through aggressive energy savings strategies and
energy efficiency improvements. Information will also be available
about traditional and non-traditional financing sources available to
Tuesday's workshop is just one of the programs Pacific Gas and
Electric Company offers to help customers save money and energy.
Services such as home energy surveys and vouchers to off-set the cost
of energy efficient products benefit residential, fixed-income and
senior customers. Additionally, customers can learn about a wide
variety of conservation tips by calling the experts with the Smarter
Energy Line at 800/933-9555. Small business customers can access
several efficiency programs that offer assistance and financial
incentives for energy efficient equipment, construction and design.
More than 50 school district representatives from Northern and
Central California will attend the workshop, which will be held on
Tuesday, February 20th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pacific Gas and
