Adams School bulletin, week of May 7
April 30 to May 18 - State Testing - Stanford 9 Achievement Test - All
students need to get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast, be at school on
May 9 - (Wednesday) - 7PM Library - Last PTA meeting of the year - Bonnie
Glover, the incoming principal for next school year will be there to meet all
parents. The Adams Advanced band will also be there to perform. Agenda
items will include - May 19th Flea Market, recognition of the 8th grade
parents on the PTA Board, discussion of how to increase parent participation
and the volunteer base for next school year, and 8th grade activities status.
- The PTA will be hosting a Teacher's Appreciation luncheon for the teachers
during their lunch period on Wednesday.
- Forms to participate in the Flea Market will be distributed to all
students on May 9 (Wednesday).
May 14 (Mon) - Deadline to turn in forms for participation in the Flea Market
- turn in forms to the main office PTA box
May 17 - (Thurs) - Area festival concert at Adams - 7:30 in the gym
May 19 (Saturday) - School wide flea market. 10AM to 2PM - Mark your
calendars. Location will be the school yard on the corner of Clinton and
Yale. On Saturday, May 19th, Adams Middle School will be sponsoring a
school-wide flea market. All proceeds will benefit either the PTA, school
club or group of students (i.e., Academy or 6th, 7th, 8th grade class).
Please consider participating in the flea market. Come that day and sell a
few of your "treasures" to the community and benefit the school at the same
time or stop by and donate them to one of the families or students sponsoring
a booth. We hope to have the Taiko and Steel Pan groups perform that day.
School clubs are encouraged to participate. So far we have several families
who will be selling their household treasures, the 7th graders with a
refreshment booth, the 8th graders will also have a booth and the Math Club
will sponsor a booth. The PTA is looking for more families who would be
willing to participate that day. The 7th graders would appreciate any
donations of soda or water for their booth.
The PTA is in the process of selecting the board members for next school
year. The following positions are vacant: First Vice President (fundraiser
chair ), Financial Secretary (deposits PTA monies), Eighth Grade Activities
chair (coordinates the two end of year 8th grade activities - Recognition
Night and 8th Grade Party). If you are interested or know of someone who is
interested, please send your nomination to email@example.com. The incoming
board for next school year include an Adams alumni, students, and a parent
with an incoming 6th grade student:
Purchase yearbooks for $25. Students may purchase them during their lunch
period or after school in the main office.
Eighth Grade Activities - The deadline to pay the $10 was Friday, May 4. -
The following rules will apply to the 8th Grade Activities:
- Only 8th grade students who have met the Academic standards can attend the
8th Grade Activities (Recognition Night and the 8th Grade party). If
necessary, refunds will be made to any 8th grade student who has already
paid the $10 but will not meet the academic standards.
- The Eighth Grade Recognition Night will be Thursday, June 7 at 6:30 PM
- The Eighth Grade party will be Thursday, June 14 during the day.
- Those students who have paid their $10 by May 4 will be released from their
classes earlier for the pizza and refreshment portion of the party
- Those students who did not pay will be released from their classes during a
later period for the dance portion of the party.
The Adams library is collecting empty computer ink jet cartridges (the small
ink jet cartridges - black and/or color; no laser cartridges or copier toner
cartridges). There is a collection bucket in the library on the third floor.
We have received the Albertson Community Partner cards. Anyone who shops at
Albertsons can help us by using the Albertson Community Partner card. There
is no cost to the member. A portion of your purchase will be donated to
Adams. If you are interested in receiving a card, please send a note to the
Adams PTA at 5000 Patterson Circle, Richmond, CA 94805 and a card will be
sent to you.
The Adams PTA is also participating in the Target Guest Card program. If you
shop at Target, please fill out a form to receive their Guest card and
designate "Adams" as the school who will receive a percentage of your

members pay an annual fee of $10 to register their cards with the eScrip
program. A percentage of your purchase is donated monthly to the Adams PTA.

April 4 - May 16 - West Contra Costa Art Show - On display at the Richmond
Art Center, 2450 Barrett are 16 pieces prepared by Adams students. Five of
the pieces were from Mr. Iwawaki's photography students. The reception and
awards ceremony were held on Friday, April 24. The PTA sponsored $20 awards
for three winning entries.
West County Aquatics Swim team is recruiting new members. Swim starts April
23 at Contra Costa College. For information call (510)232-7566 or log onto
www.wcaswim12.com. This is recreational swimming for ages 4-18.
