Residential parking permit cost to increase to $12 for 3 years
The cost of a residential parking permit will increase from a one-time fee of $5 to $12 for three years. The increase was approved by the City Council July 16.
Residents who live in each of three areas -- around the Plaza BART station, around the Del Norte station and west El Cerrito -- are eligible to purchase permits specifically for their area. The permit exempts them from the 4-hour parking limit posted in those areas.
The cost to purchase a 14-day permit for use by a guest remains at $5.
So that the city staff does not have to process all of the permits in the same year, the first round of permits for th Del Norte area will be for four years and cost $16 and the west El Cerrito permits will be for two years and cost $8.
The purpose of the increased fees is to allow the city to recover costs associated with the parking restrictions.
In other action, the council:
* Appointed NTC Architects as the architect for the swim center reconstruction project.
* Reappointed Tony Wise to the Economic Development Board.
