Workshops, study session on city's Housing Element set for Sept. 12, Sept. 17 and Oct. 3
The city will hold two workshops and a study session in connection with the updating of the city's Housing Element.
The Housing Element is one of several elements in the city's General Plan and guides the city's housing policies.
The workshops will be 7 pm Sept. 12 and 7:30 pm Sept. 17. The second workshop will be part of the regularly scheduled council meeting. Both will be held at the Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane. The study session will be 7:30 pm Oct. 3, a regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting, also at the community center.
According to a brochure from the city, workshop participants will have an opportunity to comment on possible locations for future housings, its character and design, and ideas for maintaining El Cerrito's existing housing stock.
Study session particpants will evalue the element "with respect to the effectiveness of existing programs and policies. . . . The regulatory changes and incentives necessary to implement new programs or enhance existing programs will also be addressed."
About two weeks after the study session, a draft element will be prepared and available for comment and review for 60 days, according to the brochure. Comments will be incorporated in a revised version and a review session will be held prior to its adoption by the Planning Commission and City Council.
