LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote Yes on Proposition 47

Parents and community members have an outstanding opportunity on November 5 to increase funding for new school facilities and critical renovation work without raising taxes by voting yes on Proposition 47.

The goods news for local schools is that Proposition 47 will provide state matching funds for districts that have already passed local bonds. Although voters in our district between 1968 and 1998 authorized no new bonds, since that time voters have authorized $490 million in new funding. Today, we’re starting to see the results and impact of the community’s investment through projects like the new middle school in Richmond and the lockers being installed on the Hercules Middle/High School campus. Planning is underway for extensive elementary, middle, and high school construction and renovation.

Proposition 47 means we will be able to do more with the funds we already have and is endorsed by teachers, parents, and taxpayers associations. Please vote YES on Proposition 47.
