Community and friends to celebrate Art Schroeder Day Oct. 17

Last October, the El Cerrito City Council declared October 16th ďArt Schroeder Day in El Cerrito to commemorate Artís 99th birthday and honor his lifetime of community service and fight for justice and fairness for all. This October, all of Artís friends and members of the community are invited to the First Annual Celebration of Art Schroeder Day. The event will be held on October 17th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers in the EL Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane.

Representatives from the community organizations Art belonged to or supported are sponsoring this event. They include The El Cerrito Historical Society, The El Cerrito Committee On Aging, The Ed Fund, the El Cerrito Democratic Club and the Stege Sanitary District.

We will have a social hour followed by song singing (Loyd Ferris and guitar will lead us through some of Art's favorites), poetry reading (bring your favorite that you think Art would have liked), an open mike period during which everyone is encouraged to tell her or his favorite ďArt SchroederĒ tale, and a short program on the history of our local Native Americans, one of Art's favorite topics. Light refreshments will be served.

Please come and celebrate with us as we keep Art's legacy of community activism alive and well in El Cerrito and West County. Contact Al Miller (amil2323@comcast.net or 510-526-4874) with questions or to RSVP.

Run dates: 2007-09-22 - 2007-10-17
