El Cerrito High "Old with the New" event Sept. 27

Please join us for The Joining of the OLD with the NEW at EL CERRITO HIGH SCHOOL on September 27, 2008, 10am to 1 pm.

All are welcome to watch or participate in this three-hour historic event.

With the cooperation of the school district and of SGI Construction Management Company, which will help to provide equipment and manpower, we will place:

- The 2 x5 tall El Cerrito High lettering

- Banners cleaned and restored by Jan Fabini.

- Sport felt banners, grouped by decades from 1955 through 2002, Larry Quirico, supervisor.

- The enormous, 1960s era 10 X 6 gaucho on horse cutout made by former athletic director, John Nules.

Mr. Nules was ECHS football coach from 1962 to 1974, track coach from 1974 through 1976 and athletic director from 1974 through 1980. Mr. Nules was a very artistic man. He would do the drawings of the end of the season banquet programs and certificates for former ECHS baseball coach Larry Quirico. When asked in 2004, why he spent so much time on building furniture for the gym and its offices and designing and making the mascot, he replied. I LOVE El Cerrito High School. Mr. Nules died in 2006 at the age of 76 years old.
