Description: Mary Curtis Ratcliff and Pam Fingado team-up for this exhibit of paper dolls. Though the dolls wouldn't be described as ordinary or traditional in any sense, these works on paper use paper dolls as a starting point for more sophisticated play. While Fingado uses the image of paper dolls as a way to interpret and understand facial exaggerated expressions and body language, Ratcliff combines paper dolls with wallpaper, fabric, paint, graphite, prismacolor and image transfer of her own photographs to construct surreal compositions. Her work addresses beauty, women’s power and how we borrow from animals – fur, feathers, skin – to enhance our own allure. Exhibit runs to June 27, 2009
Show opens May 8 in conjunction with the ever popular Stockton Avenue Art Stroll. Gallery hours are Thursday - Saturday, Noon - 5:30 PM and Wednesday by app. Call (510) 593 9081 for more information.
