Solano Avenue Stroll Sept. 10

Solano Avenue becomes an historical event as we celebrate our 26th
Anniversary. The Solano Avenue Stroll will take place on Sunday, Sept. 10
from 10-6 PM in Berkeley and Albany. The Stroll is the East Bay's oldest and
largest free street festival, drawing crowds of 100,000 people from all over
California.

At 11 a.m., the Local Legacies on Parade kicks off with Grand Marshal Wavy
Gravy. Prizes for theme entries set the mood for a day of family fun. The
Stroll was recently placed into the Library of Congress' permanent collection
as a national Local Legacy. This year's Stroll theme will concentrate on our
own Local Legacies -- the cultural icons, quirky and wonderful, who embody
the aspirations and ideals of Berkeley and Albany.

The mile-long block party is filled with over 75 entertainers including
RhythMix - a women's percussion group, Frog Legs - a Cajun band, and Mal
Sharpe & Big Money in Dixieland. There's a giant slide, a bicycle
ramp-jumping show, ethnic foods, game booths, a hang gliding simulator, pony
rides, castle bounces, a silent auction, dunk tanks, art projects, palm
readings and more. Special sections include Craft Alley, Teentown and
Kidtown. Admission is free.

Lisa Says, which includes El Cerrito residents Rebbeca and Alex Pfeifer-Rosenblum, will perform at Pomona and Solano 11 a.m. to noon, 1 to 2 p.m., 3 to 4 p.m, and 5 to 6 p.m.

Sponsored by The Solano Avenue Association, The Cities of Berkeley and
Albany, Alameda County Civic Arts Commission, Berkeley Civic Arts Program,
Andronico's Market, Berkeley Hills Realty, Golden Gate Fields, Jamba Juice,
Mechanic's Bank, Safeway, Starbucks, Washington Mutual Bank, Wells Fargo
Bank, The Berkeley Daily Planet, Contra Costa Newspapers, The Daily
Californian, The Express, Hills Newspapers, Oakland Tribune and radio
stations KFOG & KMEL.

Free Shuttles allow fairgoers to Stroll one way and ride the other along
parallel Marin Avenue. Free valet bicycle parking at Wells Fargo Bank and
free shuttles from the North Berkeley BART station make the day a
commuter-friendly one. Please leave your pets at home. Solano Avenue is
located off of I-80. Take the Albany, Buchanan St. or Gilman St. exits north
of the Bay Bridge. Info 510/527-5358 or www.solanoavenuestroll.org.
