ELECTION: Woods announces endorsements

Local and National Leaders Endorse Anthony Woods for Congress

Former White House Counterterrorism Advisor Richard Clarke, Former CA 10 Independent Candidate Gino VanGundy, and Suisun City Mayor Pete Sanchez Join Growing Woods Campaign

Fairfield: Having already earned national endorsements from VoteVets.org, the Human Rights Campaign, and Victory Fund, CA 10 Democratic Candidate Anthony Woods has announced the support of several local and national leaders for his campaign in the September 1st Special Election to replace former Rep. Ellen Tauscher.

Among the leaders lending their support to Woods’ campaign are best selling author and Former White House Counterterrorism Advisor Richard Clarke:

“With America at war, our military stretched thin, and our country facing growing tensions with Iran and North Korea, we need elected leaders experienced with matters of national security,” said Clarke, who served on the national security teams of three U.S. Presidents. “Anthony Woods is a decorated combat veteran who understands our military and knows what it takes to keep America safe. I am proud to endorse his candidacy for Congress.”

Gino VanGundy, a registered “decline to state” who recently dropped his own bid for the 10th Congressional District Seat in order to run for Fairfield City Council has also endorsed Woods:

“Anthony Woods is a leader who understands the strengths and challenges of our community first hand,” Van Gundy said. “In these difficult items, we can’t afford to send another Sacramento politician to Washington and expect different results. Anthony Woods will be a tireless champion for our community because he’s walked in our shoes. That’s why I am encouraging everyone who supported my campaign—and especially my fellow independents-- to help make Anthony Woods our next Congressman.”

Suisun City Mayor Pete Sanchez added: “As a local Mayor here in District 10, I know that Sacramento style politics isn’t solving our problems—it is the problem. Anthony Woods gets my support for Congress because he’s a battle tested citizen leader with the real world experience we need in Washington to advocate for our district, fix our broken healthcare system, strengthen our schools, and get our economy moving again.”

In response to the endorsements, Woods issued the following statement:

“I am honored to have earned the support of Richard Clarke, Gino VanGundy, and Mayor Sanchez. As the only viable non-Sacramento politician in this race, we’re offering people a clear choice in this campaign. And from our 6,000 plus Facebook fans from across the country, to our packed town hall meetings here within the district, we are seeing a tremendous response to our call for new energy in Washington, and real world perspective to solve some very old problems.”

Woods will host his third in a series of district-wide town hall meetings this coming Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ygnacio Valley Library in Walnut Creek.

Anthony Woods is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He is a veteran of two combat tours in Iraq, was awarded both the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal for his service. Woods is a native of Fairfield, CA, and is campaigning for the Special Election to replace Former Representative Ellen Tauscher in California’s 10th District
