Magic course at Playland-not begins Nov. 10
Learn the Art and Skill of Close-Up Magic
Playland-Not-at-the-Beach is very pleased to announce a 3-week course taught by Brenton Cromwell, the 21-year old sensational house magician at Tommy T’s Night Club. Brenton is going to focus on different skills each week. You can take one class or two or all three. The complete course (3 weeks) is $60 and includes all materials. Individual classes are $25 each.
* Tuesday, November 10th, 6:00 – 9:00 PM: Emphasis will be on slight-of-hand effects, prestidigitation and using ordinary objects to perform magic. This is perfect because you don’t need to carry props around with you. You can borrow a deck of cards or some coins and start to perform miracles.
* Tuesday, November 17th, 6:00 – 9:00 PM: New skills to learn will include palming cards and coins, doing a double lift, a French drop and making coins vanish. You will learn the basis of all slight-of-hand effects.
* Tuesday, November 24th, 6:00 – 9:00 PM: Combining palming and slight of hand techniques into magic routines. Learning what to say to people as a magician. The art of misdirection!
These classes are designed for all ages and skill levels from 7 years up to 107. Brenton will demonstrate magic effects, then break them down into component skills, then work with each student to perfect the handling and effects. You will be surprised at how much you will learn each night. Brenton will provide decks of cards and coins for each student to keep to develop their skills. Note: Small children will receive smaller size cards that will be easier for them to manipulate.
Classes will be held at Playland-Not-at-the-Beach in El Cerrito. Students are welcome to show up early and stay until 9:00 PM for pinball and arcade games for free. Classes will usually last from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with additional time for practice and private coaching.
Because of the customized instruction by Brenton Cromwell, attendance at these classes will be limited, so it is advised to sign up early. You can call (510) 232-4264 ext#24 and use a credit card to enroll.
These magic classes end on November 24th, two days before Playland’s second Houdini Magic Weekend. On November 27, 28 and 29 we will have famous magicians from all over Northern California performing. Students who have completed all three weeks of instruction from Brenton Cromwell will receive a free pass to the Houdini Magic Weekend!
