Art Association program Sept. 13 will feature M. Louise Stanley
El Cerrito - On Monday, September 13, 2010, the El Cerrito Art Association will present noted local artist and teacher M. Louise Stanley, who will speak of her classes and group tours, and show slides of her artwork and her noted sketch books.
The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Garden Room of the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito.
Using humor and wit, M. Louise Stanley paints in the tradition of history and narrative. She cleverly documents current and fictitious events using myth and allegory. Under her wry scrutiny, cultural and newsworthy topics of contemporary society are explored in delightful paintings and sketchbook entries: the tourist industry, organized religion, bad bankers and the mortgage crisis are a few examples.
Ms. Stanley holds a BA from La Verne College and BFA and MFA degrees from California College of Arts and Crafts (presently California College of the Arts). She has received the Fleishacker Foundation's Eureka Grant, two National Endowment for the Arts Grants and two Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grants. She has lectured, taught and exhibited nationally. Recent exhibitions held in conjunction with Peter Selz's book 'The Art of Engagement' were at the San Jose Museum of Art and Katzen Arts Center in Washington, D.C. A solo show was held this spring at the California College of the Arts. Her public art installation 'Neighborhood Convergence' can be seen at the Powell Street Pedestrian under-crossing at Interstate 80 in Emeryville.
Ms. Stanley currently teaches Painting and drawing at Berkeley City College. For more information see http://lulu.artist-at-large.com.
