Inner-city outings subject of Oct. 25 Sierra Club meeting

Sierra Club's Inner City Outings Program

Time and location:
Wednesday, Oct 25, 7:30 pm
Northminster Presbyterian Church Makamie Hall
545 Ashbury Street, El Cerrito

The October meeting of the West Contra Costa Group features a presentation on
Inner City Outings by ICO activist Chuck Ford. ICO is the Sierra Club's highly
acclaimed all-volunteer outreach program that offers a variety of outings for
(mostly) young people from economically impacted communities, most of whom have
no access to outdoor activities. ICO promotes interpersonal skills, improved
self-esteem through active involvement in nature, and FUN! -- all serving the
objective of building Sierra Club environmental education efforts.

Chuck Ford will show slides covering the Bay Area Chapter's range of activities
and challenges, and will discuss the leadership opportunities for volunteers.
Chuck has been an ICO leader for thirteen years, and has led more than 200
outings ranging from short local dayhikes to week-and-a-half Sierra backpack
