Internet training program on El Cerrito High campus approved
The school board approved plans Nov. 1 for the Whittier Education Foundation to build a pilot laboratory at El Cerrito High School to train students in Internet technology.
All details have not yet been worked out. Cathie Kosel, the district administrator who is working with the foundation, said a focus group will be held to help determine the process for selecting students for the program. But Kosel said applicants would need to meet a low-income requirement.
Kosel said the curriculum is still being designed but is expected to be ready in January and will be web based.
According to the board agenda, the program will initially train 20 students but later accommodate additional students. Although the facility will be located at El Cerrito High, Kosel said it will be open to students at other district schools at well.
The training program will take place outside the school day, Kosel said.
According to the agenda, "Once students complete the course of instruction, they can qualify for high paying positions with hundreds of local firms." Run dates: 2000-11-01 - 2000-11-15 |
